At last we have finished our wind chimes. They sound really nice in our classroom. Today we are taking them home to hang in our gardens.
We have been back working in our international garden. We have prepared the area and planted native plants the Maori used for medicines. We have covered the garden with mulch.
Technology
Room 7 have been planning their technological investigation into making wind chimes. First we looked at what we already knew and then what we had to find out. We did a survey about the tune of the wind chimes and what people would like them made of.
We have collected bamboo, tins, lids, shells, plastic, wire, hooks and lots of other things to make our wind chimes.
We listed the materials we would use and how we would use them. Then we did our plan.
We are now busy making them so come back next week to see our finished work.
Room 7 have been busy in the International garden. At 9.45am on Wednesday the big truck arrived with the compost.
The compost had steam coming off it. When we put our hands inside the compost, it was very hot.
We put the compost on the garden first and that took us a very long time. Before we got all the compost on, the truck arrived back with the mulch.
Before we put the mulch on we planted some plants in each of the areas. Each area represents the 5 continents.
When the bell rang at 3pm we still had a lot of mulch left to put on and we had to leave it for the teachers and Mr Bateman to finish.
Room 7 have produced some amazing art pieces.
Our Secret Gardens.
We made these by ripping up small pieces of paper from some gardening magazines and gluing them onto a white piece of paper.
The drawings of our faces are based on the art works of Picasso.
We made up a pie about our reading book “Papaka and Koura” a Maori legend retold by David Hill. We each drew about one part of the story and then put it in order to make the pie.
